On the Road Downeast
From supporting small businesses to expanding access to health care, I spent last weekend Downeast talking with Mainers about the issues that matter most to them.
It’s always great spending time Downeast. I had the opportunity to meet with Mainers and discuss some of the biggest issues at stake in this election.
I started the day at Lubec Brewing Company, where I heard about the difficulties that Maine’s small businesses have experienced during COVID-19. As Speaker, I’ve worked to support Maine’s brewing industry, and I will continue to fight for small business owners in the Senate.
I then spoke with frontline nurses and toured Calais Regional Hospital to discuss the needs of rural hospitals and how we can better provide access to quality, affordable care in rural communities.
In Perry, Mainers joined us for our 36th Supper with Sara. Everyone asked great questions—thank you to everyone who joined me!
The next day, I visited Lobster 207’s lobster pound in Lamoine. Maine’s seafood industry is so important to our economy and our heritage, and I will work to support all of our fishermen and seafood businesses in the Senate.
I then joined health care providers in Ellsworth for a roundtable discussion about the challenges of providing quality health care in rural communities. No matter where you live, everyone should be able to access quality, affordable health care.
I was so impressed with the staff at Bucksport Regional Health Center for the incredible care they are providing Mainers in the face of COVID-19. I toured their facility and heard more about how we can improve access to quality care for Mainers across the state.
There is so much to be done to support Mainers living Downeast and in rural communities across the state, and I will work every day to deliver real results for hardworking Maine families. Whether it’s protecting health care, supporting small businesses, or improving our infrastructure, I’m ready to get to work in the U.S. Senate.
