On the Road in Piscataquis County

Last week, our campaign visited Piscataquis County to meet with Mainers and talk about the biggest challenges they face, including health care, food security, and the economy.

On Monday, we traveled around Piscataquis County to discuss some of the most important issues impacting Mainers—including access to health care, food insecurity, and creating jobs in rural Maine.

We started our day in Dover-Foxcroft, meeting with logging industry leaders to tour the Pleasant River Lumber Mill and learn more about the investments they’ve made in their Dover-Foxcroft facility and mills across the state.

Maine’s lumber and forest products industry is key to our state’s economy and supports thousands of jobs across the state. Loggers and mills in Maine and across the country deserve fair trade policies and more support from our federal government.

We met with health care providers and officials from Northern Light Mayo Hospital and Northern Light CA Dean Hospital to hear more about the challenges facing Maine’s rural hospitals.

No matter where I go, the number one concern I hear from Mainers is health care. We must protect access to high-quality and affordable health care for communities across the state and support rural hospitals during this pandemic and beyond. That’s why I’ve made health care a priority during my time as Speaker, and I will continue that work in Washington.

We visited the Piscataquis Regional Food Center to discuss the important work they’re doing to address food security, especially during COVID-19. Every Mainer, regardless of their income or where they live, should have access to fresh, healthy food.

We ended our day by stopping at Bissell Brothers Three Rivers brewery in Milo. Small businesses like Bissell Brothers are essential to our state, and it was great being able to visit a new business proudly representing one of Maine’s rural communities.

From expanding access to health care to supporting small businesses to protecting our key industries, I will always work to support Maine’s rural communities. It’s clear that Mainers are ready for a senator who will finally put people — not special interests — first and deliver results for hardworking families.
