On the Road in The County

Check out the highlights from my most recent trip to The County!

Last week, we spent some time in Aroostook County meeting with Mainers and visiting local businesses and community organizations. Here is a look at some of the great places we got to visit in The County:

Our campaign hosted our 31st Supper with Sara in Grand Isle. From Grand Isle to York, our team has traveled all across the state to meet with Mainers. I am so proud that we have made these Suppers a priority of our campaign, because Mainers deserve to know that their elected officials will listen to them.

This Supper was even more special, as my friend Senate President Troy Jackson announced his endorsement. I admire Troy’s leadership for Aroostook County and am so proud to have his support in this race.

On Monday, I visited the Aroostook Community Action Program to discuss their efforts to alleviate poverty in the community using a whole family, or intergenerational, approach.

Generational poverty is a pressing issue here in Maine, which is why investing in education and job training programs, like those created by my LIFT and STEP legislation, is so important.

Next, I stopped by Edgecomb Farms, a sixth generation family farm in Limestone. Fred Edgecomb gave me a tour of the farm and shared that due to the drought, their farm is experiencing 50% lower yield compared to last year, and the potatoes they’re harvesting are much smaller than usual.

Seeing the impact of the drought firsthand at Edgecomb Farms was another reminder that we need to take action on climate change in order to protect Maine businesses, people, and our planet.

And to end the night, I participated in the second debate of the general election in Presque Isle.

Thank you to everyone on Team Gideon who came out to show their support before the debate — together, we will win this election.

Whether it’s lowering the cost of prescription drugs, taking action on climate change, or expanding access to health care, it’s time for a Senator who will deliver results for Maine.

On Tuesday, I met with health care providers and Mainers in recovery at the Roads to Recovery Community Center.

We must address the opioid epidemic like the public health crisis it is. As senator, I will fight to increase access to treatment, fund research and prevention efforts, and hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for their role in this epidemic. Check out my Health Care Agenda for more:

I also visited the Aroostook Sheriff’s Office, where I had the opportunity to thank the officers for their service and their commitment to their communities.

Aroostook County is filled with caring, hardworking Mainers. Their commitment to one another and their communities is clear — and they deserve a senator who shares that commitment and will always fight for them.
